My name is Adam and I am a current graduate student pursuing my degree in Educational Leadership. In my current class Educational Finance and Budgeting we have been tasked to reach out to our budgeting department for information. What would be an example of a specific expenditure for each of the following:

  1. Public Education Capital Outlay – Expenditures include remodeling, renovation, maintenance, and site improvements for school buildings. Currently, our budgeted expenses include roof replacements and HVAC upgrades
  2. Instructional Materials – Our instructional materials category is broken down into:
  • Text – state-adopted instructional materials such as hardback books, softback books, and electronic content which provide students with a major tool of instruction for core courses
  • Media – library and reference books, non-print materials (digital subscriptions) and for the repair or renovations of library and reference books
  • Science – textbooks or electronic content and consumable science materials (workbooks, chemicals, manipulatives)
  • Dual Enrollment – textbooks, workbooks, and electronic content typically reimbursed to college bookstores for dual-enrolled students

3. Student Transportation – typical expense include salaries and benefits for bus drivers, maintenance and upkeep of school buses, and gasoline

4. School Recognition – Florida School Recognition funds are expended on one-time teacher and/or staff bonuses, classroom supplies and materials for student incentives, training-related substitute teachers, and tutoring costs

5. Class Size Reduction – normal expenditures are for salaries and benefits of teachers to meet class size reduction state statutes
