Tim Harris began his service on the School Board in 2006. He is a native of Greenville, SC, moving to Polk County in 1972 to attend college. He holds a BA in Secondary Education and History from Southeastern University (1975) and a Master’s Degree in teaching Social Studies from Rollins College (1978).
Tim is the former owner of Sign PostMan, LLC. Sign PostMan is a sign installation service for the real estate industry.
Previously Mr. Harris taught in Polk County public schools from 1975 until 1994, working afterwards as a contract administrator and teacher resource specialist. From 1998-2006 Mr. Harris designed and coordinated annual follow-up surveys of Polk County graduates.
He is a member of the Lakeland Chamber’s Leadership Lakeland Class XXVI and Polk Vision’s Leadership Polk Class VI. Mr. Harris previously served on the Board of Directors for MIDFLORIDA Credit Union and the Board of Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Mr. Harris also has experience in dealing with growth issues as a result of his many years of residential property management and service on local planning and zoning boards.
Mr. Harris served as President-Elect of the Florida School Boards Association in 2015 and became President of the Association in June 2016. He currently serves FSBA as the Immediate Past President.
