Margaret Lofton is serving her second four-year term on the School Board. She is a native of Mississippi and has lived in Florida since 1962. She brings to the Board twenty-five years of classroom experience by having taught Mathematics from grades 7 through community college level. Additionally, she spent five years facilitating the administration of the federally funded School-to-Work grant in all Polk County schools. She is an award-winning teacher and School-to-Work Coordinator. Mrs. Lofton received a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Central Florida and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Mathematics from the University of South Florida. She currently serves on the Central Florida Public School Boards Coalition and on the Board of Directors of the Florida School Boards Association (FSBA). Mrs. Lofton received special recognition from the FSBA for being one of five Board Members from throughout the State of Florida for her achievement in completing over 100 hours of training required to be classified as a Certified Board Member. Mrs. Lofton has served as Youth Director, Sunday school teacher of youth, and church organist. She presently teaches a ladies' Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Auburndale.
