
Dick Mullenax is currently serving his second four-year term on the Polk County School Board. He moved to Polk County in 1955 and graduated from Mulberry High School in 1965. He holds a B.A. in Secondary Education from Stephen F. Austin State University, a Master's in Education from Rollins College and an Educational Specialist Degree from the University of South Florida. He was a classroom teacher at Denison Junior High School from 1970 to 1984 and then was the Science Supervisor for Polk County schools for five years. Mr. Mullenax served as Executive Director of the Polk Education Foundation for 17 years and retired in 2005.
Mr. Mullenax has received many honors including, Mulberry High School Hall of Fame, 10 Who Care Award, Take Stock in Children Leadership Award, Boss of the Year and Special Mentor Award from the American Business Women's Association. Dick has served on the Board of Directors of the Imperial Symphony Orchestra, Youth for Christ and the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations. He was a Boy Scout Assistant Scout Master, currently serves as a mentor to many students, and travels in third world countries building schools and feeding street children. Mr. Mullenax is a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
