National Green Week is an annual event that empowers schools to engage in sustainability focused lessons, projects or activities between February 4 and the end of Earth Month (April). Participating districts, schools, classrooms or youth groups choose a week, then select from GEF's sustainability focused programs to be their ‘green theme.’ Each theme provides 5 day standards- based lesson sets, activities, recommended reading, sustainability tips, contests, and more! This year, National Green Week kicks off February 4-8 but you can choose any week from Feb. 4 through April 30 to participate.
Volunteers are an important part of our school family. To maintain campus security, first time volunteer applicants pay $25 for a Florida Department of Law Enforcement background check. This is a one time, tax-deductible fee for first time volunteers.
In our district, we ask that all volunteers apply to be a volunteer for the current year by February 1. After that time, we cannot guarantee that approval will be processed until after July 1.
ReadingPals is an early literacy initiative sponsored by Carol and Barney Barnett. It focuses on engaging, training and deploying volunteer tutors to increase the number of students reading at grade level by the end of 3rd grade.
The Library Media Services Department of the Polk Public Schools is recruiting males to be reading volunteers for students.
