WHO?
One team of six students and a coach is selected from each grade level to represent the middle school in this tournament.

WHAT?
The tournament is an academic, quiz-bowl type competition. This is not a quick response, trivial pursuit contest. Instead, it is a slower-paced tournament in which players are asked questions from the areas of economics, mathematics, science, language arts and social studies. The questions are written by educators from district schools to mirror existing curricula.

WHERE and WHEN?
The Lakeland Center and Polk State College, Winter Haven will host the 2012 tournament which begins with the Semifinal Round on Wednesday, March 21. The County Championship on Thursday, March 22, will feature the six school teams from the Semifinal Round with the highest scores. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this competition. There is no charge for admission.

WHY?
E-Team's goal is to provide an arena of competition in which middle students are challenged to display their knowledge of basic economic terms and concepts along with their knowledge in the core subject areas of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.

Each participant is awarded a blue ribbon for being selected to represent their school at the tournament. Individual and school "Best in Grade Level" trophies are awarded to the highest scoring sixth, seventh, and eighth grade teams based on scoring during the Semifinal Round. Individual trophies are awarded to each team member and the coach of the six finalist teams at the conclusion of the County Championship. In addition, each of the six finalist schools is awarded a trophy.

HOW?
Polk County's Middle School E-Team Tournament is sponsored by the School Board of Polk County and the Polk Economic Education Council. T-shirts, ribbons, and trophies are provided by the Polk Economic Education Council.
