Contest Winners For FFA Creed Speaking, Polk County Family Week Art, Essays

FFA Creed Speaking Contest

Morgan Carlton, a freshman at Lakeland’s Kathleen High and Katlyn Finn, an eighth grader at Lakeland’s Lake Gibson Middle won individual championships in the Polk County FFA Creed Speaking Contest. Creed speaking is a public speaking competition where passages are recited from memory. Participants are judged on accuracy, voice quality, stage presence, expression and impromptu responses to questions about their recitation.

Nicole A. Green (Lakeland’s Kathleen High), Hannah Terrebonne (Frostproof Senior), Tori Perkins (Haines City High) and Ashley Fowler (Lakeland’s Tenoroc High) finished in second through fifth place respectively in the high school competition.

Devin Johnson-Gray (Lakeland’s Crystal Lake Middle), Seth Crosby (Crystal Lake Middle), Megan Meredith (Auburndale’s Berkley Middle) and Cheyenne Roberts (Lake Alfred Addair Middle) finished in second through fifth place respectively in the middle school competition.

Polk County Family Week Art, Essay Contest Winners

The following public school students won awards in the 2009 Polk Family Week art and essay contests. Polk Family Week was a weeklong celebration held in November designed to help families grow strong together.

Polk County Family Week included events and activities that involved private citizens, corporations, schools, non-profit agencies and government entities.

The theme of both the essay and art contests was “My Family And Me.” Contests were held in the categories of kindergarten to second grade, third to fifth grades and sixth to eighth grades

Public school students winning art contest awards were Cory Christian (Dale R. Fair Babson Park Elementary), Sarah Fish (Dale R. Fair Babson Park Elementary), Erica Guadalupe (Davenport School of the Arts), Johnisha Joseph (Winter Haven’s Elbert Elementary), Emma Trent (Lake Wales’ Bok Middle) and Georgia Trent (Bok Middle).

Public school students winning essay contest awards were Cameron Dicks (Dale R. Fair Babson Park Elementary), Isabella Perez (Lakeland’s Griffin Elementary), Kaya Reed (Dale R. Fair Babson Park Elementary), Abigail Trent (Bok Middle) and Emma Trent (Bok Middle).
