March 2011Dr. Sherrie Nickell has worked in the field of education since 1979. She has completed degrees at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels. Dr. Nickell’s first day as superintendent was November 1, 2010. Prior to being superintendent, Dr. Nickell was Associate Superintendent for Learning, where for the past five years she had responsibility for several departments including K-12 Reading; Assessment, Accountability and Evaluation; Professional Development; Career and Technical Education; Exceptional Student Education; Federal Programs; Fine Arts; English for Speakers of Other Languages; Student Services; Grants; and all the curricular areas. She also served nine years in the capacity of classroom teacher; nine years as a school-based administrator; and seven years as Director of Professional Development during which time she supervised 18 schools throughout the district. Dr. Nickell has worked in various capacities at public and private schools in Alabama, Michigan and Florida.
