The Polk Virtual School Franchise (PVS) is a curriculum service which provides students in grades 6-12 the opportunity to take online courses taught by Polk County teachers. Polk Virtual School (PVS) uses courses developed by the award winning Florida Virtual School through our franchise partnership. Polk County District Full-time Virtual Instructional Program (PCDVIP) is an online public school program that serves students in grades K-12 that meet the state eligibility mandates for enrollment. Students enrolled in the District Full-time Virtual Instructional Program (PCDVIP) will complete all course work through the on-line program and are required to adhere to all state and local policies for public school students. The PCDVIP students are required to participate in all testing programs and must meet attendance expectations through daily work submissions. Registration will begin June 10, 2010 and close September 3, 2010 for the 2010-2011 school year. This program does not serve registered home schooled students. Students do work from home but are classified as full-time public virtual students, not home schooled.
The Polk County School District maintains an affiliation agreement with the FloridaVirtual School, an award winning educational community, providing services for motivated, technically proficient high school students. Students who desire access to courses not available at their home schools or who have other special needs will find FHS a valuable resource.
The Beacon Learning Center is a state and federal grant funded curriculum resource and training web site for students and faculty. Training is available in our district utilizing Polk district teachers and a collaboration of FDLRS Sunrise. Beacon offers more than 1700 lesson plans that are assessment based and are designed to teach the Sunshine State Standards.
