Donations are needed by November 20, 2009
Items for collection:
Each bucket is also stuffed with a jacket appropriately sized for each child. Monetary donations will be accepted to make those purchases and also for the purchase of items for teenage children. Please make checks payable to the Polk Education Foundation with Fill-A-Bucket noted on the memo line. All monetary donations will generate a thank you letter with the Foundation’s 501(c)(3) determination for tax purposes.
Project Hearth and the Polk Education Foundation are partnering together for the fifteenth year to administer Project Fill-A-Bucket. Buckets are given to students in the Polk County public school system who meet the federal criteria as homeless, or who are at risk of becoming homeless. Buckets are decorated, filled and distributed prior to the Christmas holidays. For many children these buckets not only contain basic living necessities, but may be the only items they receive during the holiday season.
We ask that NEW ITEMS ONLY be donated to fill the buckets. If you would like to participate, please send donations by courier to: Dee Dee Wright, Hearth Portable, District Office, Route E. For large quantity pickups, those outside the school system, or if you have questions, please call the Project Hearth Office, 863-534-0801, or the Polk Education Foundation, 863-534-0519, to make an appointment for pickup. Your help in brightening the lives of these disadvantaged children during the holidays is very much appreciated!
The Polk Education Foundation is partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau to help spread the word about the 2010 Census and achieve a complete and accurate count of the U.S. population.
The census defines who we are as a nation. Every year, the federal government distributes more than $400 billion to state, local and tribal governments based on census data. Accurate census data help determine congressional representation, grant funding and guide local decision-makers on where to build new roads, hospitals, housing, schools and more.
The Polk Education Foundation strives to help people in the community, many of whom are experiencing hardships related to economic status, language fluency, disabilities or more. We are committed to supporting the 2010 Census as another way to improve the quality of life in our community, and to ensure that even the hardest to count can be accurately represented.
In the coming months, we will update you about important census-related news or events. We also will share information about key 2010 Census operations, including:

The Foundation serves as the fiscal agent and manager of many educational programs for Polk County Schools. We serve to enhance educational programs for students with private and corporate funds. Led by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of community, educational and business leaders, the Foundation has raised and spent over $26 million dollars.
The vision of the Polk Education Foundation is to help enhance public school programs and to help students reach their educational goals.
The mission of the Polk Education Foundation is to establish a responsive working relationship between the community and the public school system and to link community resources to the educational process.
