Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

Road Conditions

CR 557: Over I-4: Bridge maintenance project --- There will be intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures on CR 557 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2012. Motorists are advised to caution while in the area and to expect possible delays.

Bay Lake Resort Road: At SR 559: Maintenance permit project --- Love’s Travel Stop will be reconstructing entrances and turn lanes on Bay Lake Resort Road. Future striping may require intermittent lane closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. No work is expected the week of January 29th, 2012.

East West Road: New roadway construction between State Road 33 and the Polk Parkway: Construction project --- A new east west connector road and loop road are being built between State Road 33 and Polk Parkway. On Monday, January 30 through Saturday, February 4, 2012, the contractor will continue with construction activities on SR 33, south of Interstate 4. Motorists will experience a slight traffic shift. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction workers entering and leaving the construction zone onto SR 33 just south of Interstate 4 and onto Combee Road approximately 300 feet south of SR 33. Weather permitting, this project is anticipated for completion in February 2012. The contractor is APAC Southeast, Inc.

I-4: From the Hillsborough County Line to the Osceola County Line: Maintenance project --- The contractor will be repairing the cable barrier and guardrail on I-4. Work will continue through late January. There will be no lane closures. Motorists should use caution while in the work zone.

US 98: At Griffin Road and US 98 from 10th Street to south of the Home Depot:  Construction project --- The improvements under these contracts consist of milling and resurfacing, adding concrete raised medians to the center of the roadway, drainage improvements, curb and gutters, traffic signals, sidewalks, landscaping, highway signing and pavement markings.  On Sunday, January 29 through Friday morning, February 3, 2012 between the hours of 9:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., the contractor will begin milling (removal of old asphalt) and resurfacing work on US 98 from 10th Street to south of the Home Depot.   These activities are anticipated to last 5 nights and will require temporary intermittent nighttime lane closures between the hours of 9:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.  Flaggers will be present as needed.  The south entrance to the Market Square Shopping Center on US 98 remains closed for construction activity.  Motorists are able to access the shopping center at the north entrance and the south entrance adjacent to Griffin Road.  This closure is anticipated to be in effect for 5 nights.  The installation of irrigation and landscaping will take place in the medians from 10th Street to south of the Home Depot.    In addition, the contractor will be performing miscellaneous construction activities during daytime hours throughout the project corridor.  Motorists should expect minor delays during nighttime hours only.  Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction workers in the construction zone.  Weather permitting, this project is anticipated for completion in spring of 2012.  The contractor is Better Roads, Inc.

US 98: From south of Manor Drive to north of County Road 540A and US 98 (State Road 35/700), Manor Drive to Old Bartow/Eagle Lake Road: Construction project --- The improvements under this contract consist of widening US 98 to a six lane, divided highway from just south of Manor Drive in Bartow to just north of County Road 540A. The scope of work will include removal of old asphalt (milling) and resurfacing of the roadway, roadway widening, installing storm water management facilities, curb, sidewalk, traffic signals, lighting and pavement markings. Throughout the week of Monday, January 30, 2012, during daytime hours, construction activities will continue on the east side of US 98 from Lyle Parkway to Boy Scout Ranch Road to widen US 98. Construction activities will also continue on the west side of US 98 from Manor Drive to north of CR 540A and in the median area from Manor Drive to Lyle Parkway. There will be no impacts to traffic. Other construction activities will include work on the west side of US 98 between Manor Drive to Lyle Parkway to prepare for the upcoming road widening of US 98. These activities will impact various driveway entrances, but access will be maintained at all times. Weather permitting, these activities are anticipated for approximately one month. US 98: From Brooks Street to Edgewood Drive in Lakeland: Construction project --- Improvements being made as part of this project include widening the roadway from four to six lanes, removing old asphalt (milling) and resurfacing  the roadway, drainage improvements, street lighting, signalization, bike lanes, sidewalks, and signing and pavement markings. During the week of Sunday, January 29, 2012, the contractor will continue daytime construction activities on US 98 from Brooks Street toward Edgewood Drive. Weather permitting, this work is scheduled for several months and will have no impacts to traffic. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction vehicles entering and exiting the construction zone. US 98: At Marcum Road: Maintenance permit project --- Censtate Construction may need to close the right turn lane westbound on Marcum road and the right turn lane northbound on US 98 between February 1st thru February 5th intermittently in order to replace a water line for Polk County.  Motorists should be alert while in this area.

US 98 N: From West Socrum Loop road to County Road 54: Maintenance project --- Crews will be doing shoulder repairs with no expected lane closure. Work should continue through late January, 2012.

US 92: At Woodland Avenue: Maintenance permit project --- Crews for Polk County will be detouring traffic from Woodland Avenue to US 92 to complete utility work starting on February 1st until March 1st. Motorists are advised to use caution in this area.

US 92: From Reynolds Road to Berkley Road: Maintenance project --- Maintenance crews will be doing shoulder repairs from Reynolds Road to Berkley Road. There are no lane closures expected. Work will continue through late January. Motorists should use caution while in the area.

US 92: From West of Walker Ave to East of North Morgan Ave: Construction project --- The improvements under this contract consist of signing and pavement marking and sidewalks. Construction begins on February 1st. During the week of February 1st to February 5th, the contractor is setting up maintenance of traffic, erosion control, clearing and grubbing, and signal work. Expect daytime lane closures from 9am to 2pm and nighttime lane closures from 7pm to 6am. The anticipated project completion date is spring of 2012. Traffic Control Devices, Inc. is the Contractor.

US 27: From North of Blue Heron Blvd to North of Bates Road: Construction project --- The improvements under this contract consist of lighting on US 27 (SR 25) from north of Blue Heron Blvd, extending north approximately 1 mile, to north of Bates Road. This project is anticipated for completion in early spring 2012. The contractor is United Signs & Signals, Inc.

US 27: From North of State Road 540 to North of State Road 542: Construction project---The improvements under this contract consist of widening US 27 from four to six lanes, resurfacing of the roadway, drainage improvements, street lighting, guardrail installation, improved signalization, and landscaping. Throughout the week of Monday, January 30, 2012, construction activities from north of SR 540 north to the end of the project limits will continue as part of the ongoing construction. Weather permitting, this work will occur during the daytime and is scheduled for one week. This project is anticipated for completion in spring 2012. The contractor is Ranger Construction.

US 27:  From North of CR 546 to South of SR 544:  Construction project --- The improvements under this contract consist of widening US 27 from four to six lanes, resurfacing of the roadway, construction of sound barrier walls, construction of directional turn lanes, median closures and drainage improvements.  During the week of Monday, January 30, 2012, the contractor will continue with miscellaneous construction activities within the project limits.  There will be no impacts to traffic.  Weather permitting, these activities are anticipated to be complete in three weeks.  Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction workers in the construction zone.  This project is anticipated for completion in spring 2012.  The contractor is R.E. Purcell Construction Company, Inc.

US 27: At Poitras Road to South Bass Lake Resort: Maintenance permit project --- The improvements under this permit consist of milling and resurfacing the roadway, signing, and pavement markings. Nighttime lane closures from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the week of January 29, 2012. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction workers in the construction zone.

US 27: At Ernie Caldwell Boulevard South of I-4 Intersection: Maintenance permit project --- This is a Polk County road and bridge construction project scheduled for completion in January, 2012.  Contractor may require intermittent lane closures for sign construction work. Motorists are advised to drive carefully while in the area.

US 27: From SR 60 to Limpkin Lane: Maintenance project --- Crews will be cleaning and reshaping ditches with no expected lane closure. Work should continue through the mid February, 2012.

US 17: South of the US 92 Intersection: Maintenance project --- Crews will be working on US 17 just south of the US 92 intersection during the week of February 6th, 2012. There will be temporary lane closures in the north bound lanes from the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Motorists should use caution while in the area.

US 17: From South of Homeland / Garfield Road(CR 640) to South of Bartow Road and at the Railroad Overpass: Construction project --- The improvements under this contract consist of milling and resurfacing the roadway, drainage improvements, curb and gutters, guardrail, bridge railing, sidewalks, signalization, and highway signing and pavement markings. During the week of January 30th to February 5th, the contractor is placing sod, removing/installing guardrail, and making signalization improvements. Expect daytime lane closures from 9 am to 4 pm and nighttime lane closures from 7 pm to 6 am. The anticipated project completion date is spring of 2012. The Contractor is Lane Construction.

SR 659 (Combee Road): At Woodland Avenue:  Maintenance Permits project --- Crews for Polk County will be detouring traffic from Woodland Ave to Combee Road to complete utility work starting on February 1st until March 1st. Motorists are advised to use caution in this area.

SR 563 (Harden Blvd.): North of West Beacon Road:  Maintenance permit project --- The contractor will be reconstructing a driveway.  The right turn lane may be intermittently closed the week of January 30, 2012.between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Please use caution while in this area.

SR 559: Over I-4: Bridge maintenance project --- There will be intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures on SR 559 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Motorists are advised to use caution and to expect possible delays.

SR 546 (Memorial Boulevard): From Edgewater Beach Drive to the Kathleen Road Overpass: Maintenance permit project --- The City of Lakeland will be trimming trees in the medians the week of January 23 through February 3rd, 2012, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The westbound inside lane will be closed from 9 a.m.to 2:30 p.m., Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in this area.

SR 542 (Dundee Road): From west of 18th Street easterly 1.3 miles to east of Carl Floyd Road: Construction project --- This project consists of milling and resurfacing the roadway, widening, pavement reconstruction, base work, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, sidewalks, guardrail, signalization, lighting and signing and pavement markings. Expect lane closures from 9 am to 2 pm during the day andnight time lane closures from 4 pm to 7 am. This week the Contractor will continue milling and paving, please use caution while in the area. The anticipated project completiondate is spring of 2012. The Contractor is The Lane Construction Corp.

SR 540 (Cypress Garden Boulevard): At the Lake Ruby Drive intersection: Construction project --- Future intermittent lane closures between the hours of 9am to 4pm. are expected.  No work the week of January 29th. Motorists should use caution when traveling through the signed construction limits. Road Runner Highway Signs Inc. is the Contractor.

SR 540 (Winter Lake Road): From west of Thornhill Road to east of Thornhill Road: Construction project --- This project consists of milling and resurfacing the roadway, drainage improvements, sidewalks, signalization, lighting and signing and pavement markings. Expect lane closures from 9 am to 3 pm during the day andnight time lane closures from 7 pm to 6 am. Contractor will continue constructing, widening a turn lane and installing signals along SR 540 and Thornhill Road. The anticipated project completiondate is winter of 2012. The Contractor is Better Roads.

SR 60 (Van Fleet Dr.) from west of US 98/Broadway Ave. to west of US 17 (SR 555):  Construction project --- The improvements under this contract consist of reconstruction and widening to convert the existing SR 60 and US 98 intersection in Bartow from asphalt to concrete and provide additional travel lanes. The scope of work includes concrete pavement, asphalt milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, sidewalk, lighting, signalization, signing and pavement marking and landscaping. Weather permitting, motorists will experience intermittent lane closures between the hours of 8:30 pm and 5:30 am on Sunday, January 29 as workers shift traffic on northbound US 98 from State Road 60 (Van Fleet Drive) to Manor Drive to the left and on Monday, January 30 for a similar traffic shift along westbound SR 60 from east of Wilson Avenue to Richland Road. Once the traffic shifts are fully implemented crews will begin work on new lanes and sidewalks along northbound US 98 and westbound SR 60. This work will require the entrance to Fort Fraser Trail fronting on westbound SR 60 to be closed for most of this year. However, access to Fort Fraser Trail will be maintained while construction is underway through a nearby alternate entrance off of Wilson Avenue.  Access to businesses in the construction zone is being maintained while the intersection improvement project is under construction. SR 60: From West of Coronet Road to east of Foxcreek Drive: Construction project --- Improvements beingmade as part of this project consist of turn lanes, median modifications, roadway alignment, milling and resurfacing, widening, base work, drainage improvements, curb and gutters, lighting, and signing and pavement markings. During the week of January 30th to February 5th, the contractor is making drainage improvements, placing curb and gutter, placing ditch pavement, milling and resurfacing, and making lighting improvements. Expect daytime and nighttime lane closures thru-out the project limits. Coronet Road may also experience lane closures and flagging operations from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Motorists should exercise caution as there will be project personnel and equipment on site. This project is anticipated for completion in spring of 2012. Better Roads, Inc. is the Contractor. 

SR 60: From 11th to West of Capps Road: Construction project --- The improvements to be made as part of this project consist of intersection improvements, adding concrete raised medians to the center of the roadway, minor road widening, removing old asphalt (milling) and resurfacing the roadway, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, sidewalks, signalization, signing and pavement markings. During the week of Sunday, January 29, 2012, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., the contractor is scheduled to perform nighttime paving activities and placement of new curb throughout the project corridor. These construction activities will require temporary intermittent lane closures. Flagmen will be in place directing traffic.  Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be in effect for one week. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction vehicles entering and exiting the construction zone. This project is anticipated for completion at the beginning of 2012. The contractor is Better Roads, Inc.

SR 60: From the Peace River Bridges to east of Alan Loop Road: Construction project --- This project consists of milling and resurfacing, widening, base work, shoulder treatment, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, guardrail, bridge railing retrofits, sidewalks, bicycle lanes and signing and pavement markings, twenty four hour lane closures for bridge rail retrofitting at the Peace River Bridges. Lane closures for bridge railing continue during the day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Contractor will continue working on punchlist items from 9:00 a.m. to 2: 00 p.m. for approximately one week. The anticipated project completion date is February of 2012. The contractor is Better Roads, Inc.

SR 60: At County Line Road: Maintenance permit project --- This project includes intersection and signal improvements. Future intermittent nighttime lane closures between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. are expected.  Traffic signal work is expected the week of January 29th, 2012.  Motorists should use caution while in the area.

SR 37: From the Paradise Lakes entrance to south of Shepherd Road: Construction project --- The improvements under this contract consist of highway lighting on SR 37. The contractor will continue excavating and installing highway lighting along the shoulders of the roadway thru-out the project. Motorists should use caution while in the area. This project is anticipated for completion in April 2012. The contractor is American Lighting & Signalization, Inc.

SR 60: From Bailey Road to the Mulberry Phosphate: Construction project --- The improvements under this contract consist of highway lighting SR 60. The contractor will continue  excavating and installing highway lighting along the shoulders of the roadway thru-out the project. Motorists should use caution while in the area. This project is anticipated for completion in April, 2012. The contractor is American Lighting & Signalization, Inc.

SR 37: From Poppell Drive north to Imperial Boulevard: Construction project --- The improvements being made to SR 37/South Florida Avenue include removing old asphalt (milling) and resurfacing the roadway, curb and gutters, adding concrete raised medians to the center of the roadway, sidewalks, signalization and signing and pavement markings. During the week of Monday, January 30, 2012, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., the contractor is scheduled to perform signalization upgrades between Poppell Drive and Pinellas Street. These construction activities will have no impacts to traffic. Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be in effect for several weeks. The contractor is scheduled to perform nighttime paving activities and signalization upgrades on SR 37 (South Florida Avenue) on Sunday, January 29, 2012, between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. These construction activities will require temporary intermittent lane closures that may reduce traffic from two lanes to one lane between Poppell Drive and Pinellas Street. Weather permitting, these activities are anticipated to be complete in one week. Motorists should expect possible delays and are advised to use caution and watch for construction vehicles entering and exiting the construction zone. This project is anticipated for completion at the beginning of 2012. The contractor is Better Roads, Inc.

SR 37 (South Florida Avenue): At Edgewood Drive:  Maintenance permit project ---  Verizon LLC will be closing the two southbound lanes of S. Florida Avenue just south of Edgewood Drive on January 31, February 1, and February 2 between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.  The two southbound lanes will be shifted into one southbound lane and shifted again, turning the center turn lane into a single southbound thru lane.  Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible, expect delays, and use extreme caution in this area.  Law Enforcement will be in charge of traffic control.

SR 33: North of Socrum Loop Road: Maintenance permit project --- Lakeland Electric will be replacing poles\ and conductors along the roadway from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm daily through the week of January 29th, 2012. No lane closures are planned. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area.

SR 33: At Carter Boulevard in Polk City: Maintenance permit project --- Contractor will continue work within the right of way. The project consists of milling and resurfacing and adding left and right turn lanes. Work is expected to be completed by mid February 2012. Intermittent lane closures are expected between 9 am and 4 pm. the week of January 22, 2012. Motorists are advised to use caution in the area.

SR33: From Jenkins Nissan Car Dealership to North of Deeson Point Blvd/Combee Road: Construction project --- The improvements under this City of Lakeland contract consist of road widening to provide additional travel lanes.  The work also includes asphalt, milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, utility relocations, sidewalk, lighting, signalization and signing and pavement markings. No lane closures are expected this week. Utilities relocations will continue during the week of January 29th, 2012, the contractor continues to install erosion control,  and begin clearing and grubbing of the site. The project is anticipated for completion in early spring 2013.  The Contractor is Cone and Graham, Inc.
