I-4 and C.R. 54: East of U.S. 27 Interchange: Maintenance permit project --- Westbound lane closures will occur Tuesday, October 13th and Wednesday, October 14th, 2009. Eastbound lane closures will occur Thursday, October 15th, and then again on Sunday, October 18th and continuing through Tuesday night, October 20th. Motorists will encounter a rolling roadblock/traffic pacing operation in the westbound direction starting 12:00 a.m. and a second rolling roadblock/traffic pacing operation ending prior to 6:00 a.m. and in the eastbound direction starting at 11:00 p.m. and a second ending prior to 5:00 a.m. Motorists should expect prolonged delays on I-4 during these times. The westbound rolling roadblocks will begin near World Drive interchange (Exit 62), while the eastbound starting point will be at S.R. 557/Old Grade Road interchange (Exit 48). Both will end at the County Road 54 Bridge and last about 20 minutes. Additionally, starting at 11:00 p.m. and ending at 6:00 a.m., the inside OR outside lane of westbound I-4 from a point just east of Champion's Gate/County Road 532 interchange (Exit 55) to the County Road 54 Bridge while the inside OR outside lane of eastbound I-4 from the County Road 54 Bridge to just west of the Champion's Gate/County Road 532 interchange (Exit 58) will also be closed starting at 10:00 p.m. and ending prior to 5:00 a.m. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction workers in the area.
I-4: Northeast of Old Combee Road Overpass to east of S.R. 559: Maintenance project --- Repairs will be made to three existing Portable Traffic Monitoring Sites (PTMS) along I-4 from 8:00 p.m. until 4:00 a.m. Motorists are advised to use caution in the area.
I-4: From the Hillsborough County Line to the Osceola County Line: Maintenance project --- Maintenance project --- Crews will be doing shoulder repairs along I-4 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through the end of December 2009. No lane closures are expected, however shoulder work may cause visual distraction. Motorists should be aware as trucks will be exiting and entering the roadway.
I-4: From County Line Road to east of the U.S. 27 Interchange: Maintenance permit project—Continuing this week the contractor will be relocating and installing traffic monitoring stations. This project is expected to be completed by the end of November 2009. No lane closures are anticipated as a part of this project. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in this area. The contractor is TransCore TTS.
U.S. 98: At the intersection of C.R. 540A: Maintenance permit project --- Polk County contractor continues to work on C.R. 540A. Intermittent lane closures between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. are expected between October 14th through October 16th, 2009. The U.S. 98 southbound right turn-lane on to C.R. 540A remains closed. Work is expected to last through the end of October 2009. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and to expect possible delays.
U.S. 98: At Smith Lane: Maintenance permit project --- No lane closures are expected for the week of October 12th, 2009. Future signal work by a Polk County contractor is expected. Motorists should observe the signal and watch for school buses and construction crews in the area.
U.S. 98: West of U.S. 27 in Frostproof: Railroad construction project--- This project consists of the installation of new motion detection, a new cable house and replacement of the existing flashing lights and gates. Work is anticipated to be complete in late November 2009.
U.S. 92 (Memorial Boulevard): From Combee Road to Reynolds Road: Maintenance project --- Contractor crews will be cleaning and repairing ditches in this area. This work may require lane closures from 9:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m. through the end of October 2009. Motorists should use caution in this area. The contractor is Merrell’s Gradall.
U.S. 92 (Memorial Boulevard): From Gary Road to Combee Road: Maintenance project --- Contractor crews will be repairing roadway medians and shoulders in this area. This work will require lane closures from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through mid October 2009. Motorists should use caution in this area. The contractor is Merrell’s Gradall.
U.S. 92: At the intersection of North Combee Road: Maintenance permit project --- Crews will be modifying an existing driveway connection to U.S. 92 and constructing a sidewalk through December 2009. Expect future intermittent night time lane closures between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Motorists are advised to use caution in this area.
U.S. 27: At Dundee Road (S.R. 542): Maintenance permit project --- Crews will be constructing a driveway through the end of December 2009. Future intermittent nighttime lane closures between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. are planned. Motorists are advised to use extra caution and expect possible delays.
U.S. 27: North of Lucerne Park Road and Scenic Highway: Maintenance permit project --- No lane closures are planned for the week of October 12th, 2009. There will be future intermittent nighttime lane closures between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. through December 2009, while crews are constructing a driveway. Motorists are advised to use extra caution and expect possible delays.
U.S 27: North of Blue Heron Boulevard: Maintenance permit project--- There will be future intermittent lane closures from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. while the contractor is making driveway modifications. Motorists are advised to use caution in the area and expect delays.
U.S. 27: At Sand Mine Road: Maintenance permit project--- No lane closures are expected for the week of October 12th, 2009. The project includes turn lane construction and signal work as Sand Mine Road is widened. Expect future intermittent night time lane closures between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Motorists are advised to use caution in this area.
U.S. 17/98: North of Austin Phillip Lane: Maintenance permit project --- Crews will be making median and turn lane modifications. Work on the right-turn lane is planned this week. Daily lane closures are planned between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. for the week of October 12th, 2009 continuing through December 2009. Motorists should use caution in the area.
U.S. 17/92: From west of North Rochelle Drive in Lake Alfred to S.R. 17 (10th Avenue) in Haines City: Construction project --- The improvements under this contract consists of milling and resurfacing, sidewalk, signal and median improvements. Median improvements are included to take place between Kentucky Street to access ramps on the southbound side of U.S. 27 in Haines City. Current work includes nighttime paving. Expect nighttime lane closures between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. within Haines City east of the U.S. 27 overpass. Expect both day and night time lane closures from the west side of U.S. 27 overpass into Lake Alfred. Please use caution entering U.S. 17/92 from businesses, side streets, and median intersections. The contractor is APAC-Southeast, Inc.
U.S. 17/92: From U.S. 17 and U.S. 92 to Rochelle Avenue: Construction project – Construction project – The improvements under this contract consist of U.S. 17/92 being reconstructed as a six-lane, one-way pair within the City of Lake Alfred, construction of the Pomelo Street Extension and new side streets at Frank Avenue and Thelma Street, milling, resurfacing, new roadway construction, installing storm water management facilities, curb, sidewalk, traffic signals, lighting and landscaping. During the week of October 12th, 2009, the contractor will install drainage pipes and structures across Pierce Street for the new southbound roadway. A temporary road closure will be required on Pierce Street between U.S. 17/92 and Buena Vista Drive. The contractor will also be installing drainage pipes for the new southbound roadway north of Echo Street extending north to Cummings Street. There will be no impact to traffic. Other activities include the installation of mast arms at the intersection of U.S. 17/92. Temporary lane closures will be in effect for outside lanes from south of U.S. 17 and U.S. 92 to just north of Buena Vista Drive. Arrow boards will be in place directing motorists of traffic. Hours of operation will occur during evening hours. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction workers in the area. Weather permitting, all activities mentioned above will be in effect the during the week of October 12, 2009. The contractor is Kamminga & Roodvoets.
U.S. 17/92: From South Boulevard to North of North Boulevard in Davenport: Construction project—Improvements under this contract consists of milling and resurfacing the roadway, sidewalk, and signalization improvements. Current work includes sidewalk rehabilitation and roadway improvements. Expect day time lane closures. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution when entering U.S. 92 from businesses and side streets. The contractor is The Lane Construction Company.
S.R. 659 (Combee Road): From Bob Rawls Road to Grimes Road: Maintenance project --- Intermittent lane closures are expected while crews make shoulder repairs and clean ditches along the roadway. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and expect possible delays. Crews will be working from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, October 5th to Thursday, October 8th, weather permitting.
S.R. 655 (Recker Highway): From south of Avenue G NW to U.S. 92: Construction project --- Starting at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 11th, weather permitting, crews will start the striping the roadway between the travel lanes and shoulders in both directions along Recker Highway. This work will continue each night until completion. The work will result in intermittent lane closures in both directions from 7:00 p.m. to 6 a.m. The location of the lane closure will change as the work progresses. Even though the project is nearing completion and is expected to be completed by Monday, October 19th, motorists are reminded to observe the posted speed limit and to drive with extra caution for the protection of themselves, construction workers and pedestrians. Fines are doubled for speeding and other driving infractions in the construction zone. The contractor is The Lane Construction Corporation.
S.R. 563: At the Main Street Overpass: Maintenance contract project --- Crews will be repairing the drainage pipes in the area starting Monday, October 12th, 2009. There will be daytime lane closures. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving in this area and expect delays.
S.R. 559: North of Lundy Road at the C.R. 559 Intersection: Maintenance permit project --- No lane closures are expected this week. The contractor will be installing pavement markings and signs during the week of October 12th, 2009. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving in this area and expect delays.
S.R. 559 (Main Street/Ariana Street): From U.S. 92 to north of Colleen Court in Auburndale: Construction project --- The improvements under this contract consists of milling and resurfacing, curb and gutter, guardrail, sidewalk, signalization and signing and pavement marking. Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime lane closures, with possible delays expected. Motorists are asked to use caution while in the area. The anticipated completion date is December 2009. The contractor is Lane Construction, Inc.
S.R. 548 (Lakeland In-Town By-Pass): Construction project --- Construction crews will be shifting traffic on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to enable work on the median. Northbound traffic will be shifted to the outside lane between Lake Wire Drive and Pear Street. The outside northbound lane of North Florida Avenue from Peachtree Street to Parker Street has been closed to traffic. Motorists should drive with caution and watch signage. Traffic has been switched to the new realigned segment of Kathleen Road approaching the Lake Wire Intersection in the southbound direction. Construction continues from North Florida Avenue to George Jenkins Boulevard on sidewalks, lighting, drainage and landscaping. Kathleen Road will be realigned and a concrete bridge will be constructed over CSX Railroad on the west side of Kathleen Road. The anticipated completion date is fall 2009. In addition, traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard from Lake Wire Drive to Pear Street and on Kathleen Road from Pear Street to Lake Wire Drive. Construction will result in detours and possible delays. The contractor is Southland Construction Company.

S.R. 540 (Cypress Gardens Boulevard): At Cypress Gardens Road: Maintenance permit project --- Lane closures are planned for the week of October 12th, 2009. There will be intermittent lane closures between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday while crews are making intersection improvements. Barrier wall is installed on eastbound S.R. 540 which has narrowed the through lanes. This week contractor will continue installing a gravity wall and the drainage system. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution and expect delays in this area.
S.R. 60: Over the Peace River (One mile east of U.S. 17): Bridge maintenance project --- The right eastbound lane of S.R. 60 over the Peace River will be closed beginning Monday, October 12th through Friday, October 16th from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. daily for bridge maintenance. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and to expect possible delays.
S.R. 60: West of Bartow: Railroad construction project --- This project consists of the installation of new circuitry, motion detection and cable housing. Work will be completed by the end of October 2009.
S.R. 37: From north of Virginia Street to south of Fitzgerald Road/Schoolhouse Road: Construction project --- The improvements under this contract consist of milling and resurfacing, base work, curb & gutter, sidewalks, guardrail, median opening modifications, signalization and signing and pavement markings. Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime lane closures, with possible delays. Motorists are reminded to obey the posted speed limit and to drive with extra caution in the construction zone. Motorists are also reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in the construction zone. This project is expected to be complete by early November 2009. The contractor is APAC – Southeast, Inc.
S.R. 37: At Alamo Drive: Maintenance permit project --- The southbound right turn lane onto Alamo Drive will be closed until October 12th, 2009. Lane closures are planned for the week of October 12th, 2009. There will be intermittent nighttime lane closures between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., Sunday, October 11th, 2009 through Thursday, October 15th, 2009 while Polk Coutny crews work on intersection improvements. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and to expect possible delays.
S.R. 37: South of Imperial Boulevard: Maintenance permit project --- No lane closures are planned for the week of October 5th, 2009. There may be future intermittent nighttime lane closures from 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. while crews finalize work on the median modifications and driveways. Motorists should expect delays and use caution in this area.
S.R. 33: From Socrum Loop Road to the Lake County Line: Maintenance project --- Intermittent lane closures are expected from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through the end of October 2009, while crews make shoulder repairs and clean ditches along the roadway. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and expect possible delays.
S.R. 17: Between Fann Street and C.R. 630: Maintenance permit project --- Contractors will be removing two driveways and will be constructing sidewalk, curb and gutters. This may require intermittent lane closures between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. starting Monday, October 12th, 2009 through Friday, October 30th, 2009. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays.
Kentucky Avenue in Lakeland: Railroad construction project--- This project includes the addition of a cantilever in the southbound railroad quadrant and replacement of existing flashing lights and gates. Work is anticipated to be completed by late November 2009.
Ingraham Avenue in Lakeland: Railroad construction project--- This project includes relocation of existing cantilever’s and new gate mechanism in the northwest railroad quadrant, installation of a new cable house and detection equipment. Work is anticipated to be completed by late November 2009.
Massachusetts Avenue in Lakeland: Railroad construction project --- This project includes replacement of existing flashing lights and gates, new cable house and pre-emption circuitry. Work is anticipated to be completed by late October 2009.
Magnolia Street: West of U.S. 17 & U.S. 92 in Davenport: Railroad construction project--- This project includes new motion detection, new cable house and replacement of the existing flashing lights and gates with the addition of side lights. Work is anticipated to be completed by mid November 2009.
Wabash Avenue: South of U.S. 92 in Lakeland: Railroad construction project--- Upgrades to the railroad signal system began this week with the addition of a four-quad gate system. Additional work includes replacing the existing signal cables at the crossing location as well as adding additional gates and new cables houses. Work is anticipated to be completed by late October 2009.
